Financing climate transformation in Africa

Goodwell is partnering with IYBA WE4A to introduce a new technical assistance and investment initiative for women entrepreneurs driving climate transformation in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, and Mozambique. We’re currently seeking applications from inspiring candidates!

Technical and financial assistance to grow your business

We’re offering technical and financial assistance to a select group of women-owned and led businesses that are making a positive environmental impact. Successful applicants will receive:

Technical assistance via NYUMBA

A 6-month training program with a focus on investment readiness (available to 100 applicants).

Tailored support

To help you scale your business, refine your strategy, enhance operations, and maximise climate impact (available to 100 applicants).

Financial support

Concessional loans of up to EUR 100,000 or loan guarantees of up to EUR 50,000 (available to 35 applicants)

Focused on climate-aligned businesses

This initiative supports companies that are creating a positive impact in a variety of green sectors, including the following:

Circular economy / waste management / biomass
Transport / logistics
Construction
Sustainable agriculture
Renewable energy
Blue economy / aquaculture
Eco-tourism

Who should apply?

If you are a woman leading a growing venture with a clear climate impact, we’d love to hear from you! We’re looking for companies that are:
  • A niche, dynamic venture with a unique value proposition, novel technology, or adaptive business model
  • Owned and led by women in executive roles
  • Employing between 10 and 250 people
  • Operating for at least two years and with evidence of revenue generation (ideally €200,000+ annually) (this criterium does only apply for financial assistance, if you are applying for technical assistance only, you do not need to meet this criterium)
  • Achieving climate-related goals (like reducing emissions, creating green jobs, or enhancing resilience)
  • Working in one of our priority sectors (see above)
  • Located in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, or Mozambique

‘Investing in Young Businesses in Africa: Women Entrepreneurship for Africa’ (IYBA WE4A) is a partnership between the European Union (EU), the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) multi-donor partnership ‘Employment Promotion for Women for the Green Transformation in Africa’ (WE4D) and it is part of the Team Europe Initiative ‘Investing in Young Businesses in Africa’ (IYBA).
