Addressing Africa’s Educational Crisis

Sub-Saharan Africa faces the world’s highest rate of educational exclusion and the lowest rates of successful educational outcomes. With about 40% of the world’s youth living in Africa—90% of whom cannot comprehend simple text by the end of primary school—the need for high-quality educators is critical. Instill addresses this urgent need by revolutionising professional development for teachers.

Why Goodwell invested

Education holds immense potential for positive impact, making it a perfect fit for our investment philosophy. Financially, the sector is appealing for several reasons: demand exceeds supply, there is access to negative working capital, it has high barriers to entry, and prices are increasing faster than inflation. Goodwell takes pride in being a pioneer in a sector typically funded by donors or development organisations.

Recent achievements and future ambitions

Alim Ladha, Founder and CEO of Instill Education, launched a successful Upskill app, providing practical and accessible teacher training. Additionally, Instill has earned accreditation from the South African government, established a partnership with the Ghanaian government, and is gearing up to launch in Nigeria.
