Building stronger communities with tomatoes

Despite being one of the largest producers of tomatoes in West Africa, Nigeria is still the world’s largest importer of tomato paste. Tomato Jos is working to change that, using the power of Nigerian agriculture to grow local produce and turn it into high-quality products for local consumption. They aim to demonstrate that agricultural excellence can support the creation of a rural middle class in Nigeria.

Why Goodwell invested

Tomato Jos has a dual mission: meeting the rising demand for nutritious products while enhancing the livelihoods of smallholder tomato farmers. By focusing on both objectives, the company generates economic returns across its entire supply chain. This approach not only ensures a reliable supply of nutritious products, but also provides local farmers with better livelihoods and fosters economic growth in the regions it serves.

Recent achievements and future ambitions

Tomato Jos grows tomatoes, soya and maize, working with a network of farmers to raise high-quality produce, reduce post-harvest losses and increase local incomes. Besides training and support to increase their crop yields, these farmers also have access to a variety of social benefits. With their recently built factory, Tomato Jos is now able to take production of high-quality tomato products into their own hands.
