Our impact

Goodwell’s continued success comes down to our industry expertise and collaborative mindset. Starting in India and later focusing on sub-Saharan Africa, we take a patient, long-term approach to every company we work with. The results speak for themselves.

2024 Impact Report

Goodwell supports local African businesses to improve access to high quality goods and services across the continent. Led from the ground up, we work to build a more resilient and inclusive world. Read our 2024 impact report to learn about the progress we’re making.

“Our mission-driven investment philosophy delivers both financial and social returns by taking an extremely local approach. Our repeated success is directly connected to working closely with our portfolio companies, bringing together both regional expertise and access to a global business network.”

- Els Boerhof

Our theory of change

We believe in a world with no one left behind. To achieve our mission, we carefully select investees that resonate with our core values and work with them to enhance their governance and expand their impact. Through our investees, we deliver high-quality, affordable products and services to underserved audiences, resulting in improved livelihoods, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable financial returns for investors.

Goodwell's value addition

We achieve these goals by offering investees support that goes far beyond financing. Combining funding with locally led collaboration, Goodwell actively advises portfolio companies on strategy, governance, ESG, and inclusion. We provide long runways to give investees time to realise their ambitions, while our reputation as first-movers attracts additional funding and network connections.

Climate lens investing

Underserved communities are hit the hardest by climate change. We apply a climate lens to our investments, focused on both mitigating and adapting to effects of climate changeEvery sector we invest in must play a role in climate resilience, from creating more efficient supply chains and introducing electric vehicles, to providing effective insurance coverage.

Gender lens

Women are a major entrepreneurial force in Africa, with one in three starting their own businesses. However, they are often excluded from accessing the financing needed to grow their enterprise. Goodwell wants to equip women with the tools they need to overcome barriers to inclusion We actively support female-led businesses through our collaborative partnerships, with funding instruments tailored to their needs, and by specifically seeking investment opportunities in sectors that benefit women.

Tracking social impact

Every company we invest in has impact at its core; our support enables them to expand and grow. We make their impact more visible with regular reporting that aligns with recognised impact measurement frameworks like GRI Standards and IRIS+. We don’t set specific impact targets for investees – our goal is to see sustainable progress over time.
