Goodwell Investments Selected for ImpactAssets 50 2020
Goodwell Investments today announced its inclusion in the ImpactAssets 50 for the third consecutive year. An annual showcase of impact investment fund managers, ImpactAssests 50 (IA 50), has released its 2020 list of top 50 fund managers delivering financial returns through social and environmental impact.
Now in its ninth year, IA50 is the first publicly available database of outstanding private debt and equity impact investment fund managers from across the globe. Fund managers included in the list manage an estimated $39.8 billion in assets dedicated to creating measurable, positive impact.
“It’s an honour to be part of ImpactAssets 50 for the third time”, commented Els Boerhof, Managing Partner at Goodwell Investments. “It’s confirmation of our ongoing commitment to building inclusive growth in Africa and the efforts of our local investment teams and joint venture partners, Alitheia Capital in Nigeria and Aavishkaar in India.”
Goodwell supports local entrepreneurs and innovative institutions working to build inclusive economic growth across various regions in Sub-Saharan Africa. It provides risk capital and hands-on support through local investment teams across the continent.
Goodwell’s inclusion on the IA50 list for three years in a row demonstrates its steadfast focus on generating significant social impact and healthy economic returns while steadily expanding their portfolio.
“As impact investing continues its inexorable rise, it is critical to provide investors with a curated, objective evaluation of impact fund managers. The IA 50 is built to filter out the noise that is growing louder in impact investing and help investors focus on deep, meaningful impact”, said Jennifer Kenning, CEO and Co-Founder, Align Impact and IA 50 Senior Investment Advisor.
This recognition comes as Goodwell continues to raise its EUR 100 Million uMunthu fund. To date, the fund has invested in 16 companies in Africa, predominantly in financial service and more recently mobility and agriculture. Future investments in health and sanitation, energy, transport and education are expected. Together, Goodwell’s 35 portfolio companies have reached over 28 million households with more than USD 2.1 billion in financial products and services, and create over 32,000 jobs.
Jed Emerson, Senior Fellow, ImpactAssets, IA 50 Review Committee Chair commented, “With record applicants and assets under management, the IA 50 continues to reflect the rapid growth and interest in impact investing. The IA 50 is a proven and trusted way for mainstream investors and their advisors to get started with exploring what firms are already working in this area and determining what interesting impact investments an investor can make today.”
